At times I wonder if I am using the wrong strategy. I've tried to locate archived articles on what strategies job seekers used back in the 1970's, the last time the recession was as bad as it is today. In that time, there was no Monster, no Careerbuilder, no Indeed, no Jobs or any other dot com variety. As depressed as our economy and the job market is today, we will prevail. This country has rebounded from turbulent times before. And guess what....job seekers from that era have managed to rebound without the use of any Careerbuilder. This just amplifies my loathing for internet job boards.
In my long journey in the job search, I have discovered that sending credentials to someone directly is the best way to generate a response. Be it through e-mail, fax, or even the old school way of sending a resume through....*gasp*....postal mail!
I have heard often that job seekers cry about blanketing the earth with their resumes and not getting one single response. If all these job seekers do is submit their resumes on some generic web application, should I be really be surprised there's a lack of response?
For further clarification, I came across this site about conducting job searches. I was particularly interested in Section B: Rating the Strategies:
Pay Special Attention to Section B
I am now off to fax my resume!
